300wby loads and pressure signs

Hey gang just trying to work up a load for my R93 300wby, so far I have loaded up a start of 77gr of adi 2213sc, 180gr barnes ttsx, 215 federal mag primers and only got 2860fps average and the primers were pretty flat. I understand barnes tend to develop more pressure than conventional bullets so I'm always cautious when loading. What other signs should I look for pressure as the old sticky bolt lift method doesn't apply to the straight pull system. I am looking at trying some adi2217 and possibly dropping down to a 168gr ttsx and get some more speed? Interested to hear what others have to say.

I'm not a Blaser guy, just Mauser M03, Sauer, Sako and lots of others . . .
Here are a few of the clues I've seen over the years:

- Pancaked primer or excessive firing pin crater (compared to the mark the firing pin makes at nominal pressure)
- Primer blow-back (either partial or complete) - note, this can also be caused by excessive head space.
- Ejector plunger impression on the brass (a "smile" or a circle)
- and of course you can actually measure the brass with a caliper . . .

I’ve tried 2213SC in the .300 Win and found it fine enough for 200g bullets but slow and uninspiring with 180g pills.
On the other hand 2217 produces clover leaf clusters with 181g TUGs.
I’d imagine that in the extra volume of the weatherby the pattern will stay the same.

Thanks for the replys so far, always cautious on how far to push them. I just picked up some adi 2217 so will give that a crack and see how that goes.

Use 2217, much better powder for the 300wm and the 300wby mag with heavery projectiles.
