RWS introduces 308 Win short barrel specific loads
RWS rifle cartridges in caliber .308 Win. Short rifle
Increasingly, short, lead runs are gaining popularity in hunters. This trend is supported by the increasing use of mufflers, especially in the caliber .308 Win.
Standard ammunition is designed for common run lengths of 600 mm. When shooting standard ammunition from short runs (420 mm to 550 mm), the following disadvantages occur: energy and speed loss, limited effectiveness, pronounced muzzle flash, loud muzzle blast and increased wear on mufflers.
RWS has therefore developed a cartridge specially optimized for use in short runs. In practice, this means shooting from short runs without sacrificing performance.

Sounds like a brilliant idea, I guess it was inevitable.

Just in time for my new toy, but I expect they will be difficult to find here in the USA.
I’ve tried RWS ammo in 9.3x62 and 300 win mag. Both shot good groups in my R8 barrels.
If anyone comes across this for sale here in the States, please post a link. I’ll try it out in my new K95.

I buy RWS ammunition from NEGC, they will order any RWS you want in their next import batch. https://www.newenglandcustomgun.com/Gun ... nition.asp

That's very interesting and a great ideafor those that don't reload.

Given the popularity of the .308, 8x57 & 9,3x62 in the tracker models I would have thought this overdue. Then again if you are serious about tracking you have probably jumped through the hoops to reload in Germany

Then again if your tracking the range is that short the loss of performance isn't noticeable, well maybe the muzzle blast.

Factory ammo for Stutzens . Also be good in that optional 52cm barrel length .
I'd be interested to see what it clocks in a short barrell. The spec on the web site doesn't specify bbl length used, but the velocity specified suggests that the test barrel may be 24".
If I could simply pick up a pack of 20, I'd have a play, but unfortunately I would need to order a case of 200 so I guess my curiosity won't be satisfied.

I doubt that they would call it short barrel and test it in a 24" I would think 20" at a maximum.

It says full performance from barrels as short as 42cm which is 16 1/2” which is what my R8 308 barrel is. I’ll get some to test as soon as I can. Full performance could mean almost anything, we’ll see.

Would love to buy some and try for my R8 20.5" barrel, but knowing the Importer it would cost $42,000,000.00 per box.

Here in Germany, where I am at the moment they are a steal at only $41,000,000 per box. If you want I'll buy a box and send it to you for only $41,500,000 which will save you a cool half million. How's that sound?

Is that in Zimbabwean Dollars? if so it might be worth getting a couple of boxes.

I guess it could be Somalian Dollars, but they mostly have US dollars paid in ransom of crews and cargo.

Bit harsh Theo. Ask your LGS to get a price for a case (200rds/10packets) and report back.
You might be pleasantly surprised.
BTW get the price for the 165s please. I don't like monos.
