SxS shotgun sight?

Post by SPEEDY »

I'm thinking quite seriously about putting open sights on my coachgun but can't find anything that will work.

Can anyone think of of any flat base sights that will fit flush on a 9mm wide rib?

The Truglo pro series comes in 8mm and 3/8" which is 9.5mm perhaps one of them would work, you could contact them to see.

I did look at those but I'd rather a more traditional sight, maybe even a ghostring.

Speedy,

Are you looking to shoot slugs through it or a combination of shot/ slug?

Combination, well buckshot for pigs in close and .690 round ball for deer and maybe some BB's for whistling in foxes and Steel for the odd duck.

So a bit of an open choked all rounder, I wouldn't bother with the rear sight at all but the Regs require one.
I thought about a scope but soon dismissed it.

Go with an red dot then. Given the shots wIll be under 60m ( most likely 35), a 4 or even 6 MoA dot would do the trick.

I did think about a red dot, but to 50m it seems I can just shoot it like a regular shotgun, I'd be happy to hunt with just the bead, but the regs require a rear sight.

I did think about getting a clamp on tear sight and put a little magnet in it to keep it on.
There is no law requiring how or what the rear sight is, only that there is one.

I like the Sabatti sab mon set up, and I wanted one but could never find one.

But I'm definitely looking for something understated.

Agree with the understated part. If you are going to use it for any type of shotgunning, less is more for the rear sight. My krieghoff drilling front sight is way too big for a shotgun but life is a compromise. Actually I think the Germans nailed the overall size for both front and rear sights for drilling ranges when they had the flip up system for both shotgun use, slugs/ the rifle barrel but you don’t see that now

I like the Italian boar shotguns designed for shooting round balls and still good for shot for hares and birds in the hills.

How much money do you want to spend and how good are you with a file?

http://www.recknagel.de/Joomla/images/s ... ternet.pdf

see page 11 (13 of 40) under the heading VISIERE

Pretty sure the front sight on your drilling Oscar is a no 9 on page 6 (8 of 40) that could be swapped for a no 1 or no 2

I'm a fitter and turner so I'm pretty good with a file, but someone might have found the perfect folding sight made to fit over a shotgun rib.
I've emailed the Aussie distributor and hopefully will hear back after the easter long weekend.

Its pretty similar to the one in the pic but goes over the rib rather then dovetailed into it.

I solved the problem, and I'm damn happy with the result.

Just mount a pycatiny rail and a 1-4 Leupold spot hog scope.
It still swings good, you can shoot with both eyes open, and with RB zeroed at 40m the center of pattern is only may be 5" high at most.

Oh in my tradition of naming my guns, shotguns in particular I've named her Rosemary after a long ago ex missus.
They are both nothing special to look at, a little rough and gangly but for some reason they both leave you grinning like an idiot every time you put a load through it like nothing else can.

This one and it's factory original sister as a back up.

I can throw in a hand full of RB's if you want to have a play and a laugh.

No its only No2 and less. I'll probably only take the 20G as that's what I've got the ShotKam on.
