Another new guy from Canada

Hey there everyone. New to this forum. I have posted on some gun related boards before, but was looking for something specific to my firearms taste. I own a Blaser BBF, a Sauer drilling and two wirehairs (one is a DD). Looking forward to chatting with the group.

Rob, I have an 11 yr old wirehair bred from NAVHDA lines. Great dog and an old warrior. My 3 yr old is a DD. He’s a handful. Lots of prey drive.

I like to hunt all things really. Moose and bear not so much due to time, but deer, waterfowl, all upland species, turkeys, coyotes...

There is much to this debate, but essentially it comes down to the breed registry. The German breeding and testing system oversees dogs registered as DD’s.
The differences I see in my dogs is, my GWP has more “point”and my DD has more “track” in him. They both have high prey drive but the DD is more driven. My GWP is quite “sharp” and is suspicious of strange dogs and people. The DD is quite friendly and stable but not as obedient.

Welcome Dilly, good taste in rifles and dogs. By DD, do you mean Deutsche Drahthaar, which translated is a German Wirehair, which literally is pretty much the same dog with two names. If DD means something else excuse me and disregard, carry on.

On the side, since you mention Moose hunting, which province would you hunt if you were coming from out of country? I'm south of Ontario, and hope to get after Moose, from what I'm gathering, Ontario is not the place to go.

As I was readding into it bith parent dogs had to pass a field test for their offspring to be labeled DD.
Although in my book that doesn't guarantee that good offspring will be the result, I can definitely see how it increases the odds.

Dom. I would go to Newfoundland for moose. Plentiful there and the people are just plain down~home nice to be around.
