Re: Leica Geovid 10x42 HD-B 3000 Binocular
Bit more of a review on the Binos today. I needed to re set zero on my 338lapimp and check zero on my 300wm barrel and been such a nice day, why not. Once I got that sorted it was time to see how good this ballistic program works. I set my gong at 400m and the Binos told me to dial up 6.0 moa for my 338lapimp, I ran the program (Shooter). and it told me to dial up 5.7 Moa. I just left it at 6 Moa and see what happens. Shot was good but just a touch high to the spot I was aiming at. I might play around with the scope hight to trick it. But I dropped it one click back and was sweet.
I then put the sd card I made for the 300wm in and took the lapimp out. Quick range and it said to go up 6.8moa. Program said the same. I then let 2 shots rip out to 400m and 2 hits. I was impressed. I didn’t realise till I got to the gong the 300wm was about 1/2 inch off dead centre and both shots are touching. The 338lapimp was a bit closer and almost touching.
It’s safe to say the program works well and will be fine for mid LR work.
I tried to get an image with the range finder working but it’s just so bloody quick to get a photo of. The best range I got today was 2535m. Most of the animals around was the bloke next doors sheep. And time and time again I was getting hit after hit off them with out any issues.
Scoping the sounding country side I’m, as always very impressed with their glass. A few times ranging I couldn’t believe it was that far and still so clear. I guess you get what you pay for.
But in summing it up if your after Binos that has great glass, range finder and ballistic program that really works you can’t go wrong.

Looking good. Are you going to post some hunting vids with it this year?

Re: Leica Geovid 10x42 HD-B 3000 Binocular
Had a further play with the Leica binos today.
I managed to get MOA calculations to 924 metres. Once over 925 metres you get no MOA calculation at all and only the distance is displayed.
So how accurate is the Leica ballistic calculator compared to the shooter app?
Now for the Berger Elite Hunter the BC is 0.419 in G7, and G7 is ideal for boat tailed bullets. The Leica binos use G1 in their calculations and the BC is 0.814....
My shooter app adjusts my muzzle velocity according to powder temperature but for this calculation I made the temperature 12° celcius and muzzle velocity 3251fps which the same in both.
Leica gave me 17.0 MOA dope wheras the Shooter App gave me 16.3 MOA.
That means at 1000 yards dialing in the dope with the Leicas would give me a hit 7 inches high....not bad at all.
I might adjust the G1 BC in the Leica program to correct this.
I'll see how that goes....
