Hello, I recently joined the forum, I'm from Eastern PA and I'm looking to buy my first Blaser rifle. I plan on using it for an African hunt. Can anyone tell me how well the Blasers shoot the heavier bullets (160 gr to 175 gr) in the 7 mm Rem mag? I have a couple of other rifles in that caliber but they don't like bullet weights greater than 140gr. Thanks.

Welcome to Blasebuds, we have several members with 7mm R8s that hopefully can answer your question from first hand experience. The twist is 1:9.5” so should sabilize the 175 Elite Hunter.

Welcome, funny thing with AU the 7mm rem mag never really took off over hear for some reason.

Should be OK with Berger 175 GRAIN bullets and as Bob says twist rate is 1:9.5 in Blasers an Berger says should be 1:10 or faster for stabilty....

If your going to go 7mm rem the Berger 168gr Hunting are excellent. Guys out here are using them on sambar and various other deer and knocking them on their
Ahole.

I'll have to checkout comments on the other forums. I appreciate the comments about Berger bullets. Does anyone have experience with Barnes bullets?

Lots of experience with Barnes bullets, they work well at high velocity but produce slow kills at low impact velocities. It’s best to use light for caliber bullets because even they penetrate more than needed for North American game. As an example, I shot a medium sized boar at 150 yards with a 130 grain TTSX at a muzzle velocity of 3150 FPS from my 30-06 BD14. It dropped the boar in his tracks with a high shoulder shot and an unseen sow behind him also with a DRT shoulder shot, exited her and kept on going. The boar was around 22” wide at the shoulders and the sow around 18” wide at the shoulder so 40” and four layers of tough hide and shoulder bones.
