When forgetting where you came from, and how you got there, you can loose the direction you are going
By Ron Williams
History, and the study of it is very important, besides the study of history, proper interpretation is also needed. During a recent conversation with Skeetshot, he stated that pre England, India had a rich martial tradition, of being armed, for protection and hunting. What happened when they became independant from England, the part of the constitution that was written concerning arms, left out the part of being able to bear arms being a right. Leaving a highly populated country, where individuals, were unable to protect themselves against animal attacks, and hoodlums. Now trying to change it is difficult, because the leaders have forgotten where they came from, and how they got there.
In Australia, protesters are throwing a fit trying to ban hunting, firearms, eating meat, chasing women and about every other damn thing that is worth doing. However their ancesters were dumped upon the shores of that continent, and left to fend for themselves with little support and short supplies. They had to fight for survival, subsistance hunting was the norm, taking care of themselves was the only way to go.You got by, or you died. Species of animals not native to Australia were rightly or wrongly introduced, and they quickly took hold, and flourished. If it were not up to hunters, they would be up to their ears in rabbit manure, and all the native species they want to preserve would only be seen in zoos and mounted on display in museums. I guess the protesters would rather pay taxes to have the government do population control on non native, feral species, than gain the revenue from selling hunting licences and permits to remove excess populations of these animals. They think that since rabbit manure is good on a garden, no harm in there being six feet of the stuff laying around. These protesters have really forgot where they came from, and how they got there, in the process, totally lost their direction. They are so dependant on the government the only way they can express themselves is to protest indepentant minded people looking less toward the government for support. The protesters would be slaughtered like the rabbits they are trying to protect in a time of crisis, and especially if the government came up short in protecting them.
Then it comes to the US, same manure, different continent. Our forefathers set in motion a way of doing things that worked pretty well compared to the methods practised elsewhere. We had growing pains but, sometime in our past, someone in our midst noticed how well we where doing and decided, Hey! we could be the greatest country in the world, set the standards and goals that other countries would in the future look to, and try to emulate. Now I am not saying this was right or wrong, but if you are going to take a leadership role, you better by god be prepared to lead. Our political machine since Ronald Reagan, has floundered. Our leaders still think we are leading the world by example, but the example we set is poor. We meddle in others affairs when we should not, and when our involvement is required we come up short. We help others that do not apreciate it, and fail to help those who would. Up until the Korean war, wars were run and won by generals and soldiers in the field. They decided that the Korean war and future wars could be run from Washington. Since then no major military action has been decisively won by our military. We spend a lot of money getting a bunch of our guys killed and maimed to have an undecided action, leaving the folks country we did battle in, not much better off than when we went there. Some folks you just can't help, and the best help for them is to leave em alone. They have been killing themselves without our help in Iraq and Afghanistan since anyone can remember. The last successfull campaign in that area was done by the Hindu ancesters of the Ghurkas, they were extremely fair with dealing with the muslims causing problems, they just went in and wiped out the total population of the area, it remained peacefull for several thousand years after that.
Getting back to the subject of the US. We have decided that we are the worlds foremost leader, but we are not willing to take a leadership role, merely want the title. This is a poor excuse of a combination.
The US is a great place, I would not want to live anywhere else, and many others have decided the same thing. Yet as I mentioned in another place, hispanic immigrants come here to flee from crime, poverty and corruption, and form communities that then become areas of crime, poverty and corruption. My thought process of remembering where you came from is a double edged sword, not only do you need to remember the good stuff, you need to remember the hardships, and the things that were wrong. Or else you are doomed to repeat the mistakes. The hispanics only wish to remember the good stuff about the country they left, and in forgetting the bad stuff they drag it along with them. Only problem is, they look to their new country to solve the problems, that they should of left behind. They most definately forgot where they came from, how or why they got here, and I am not sure they care where they are going, as long as someone else pays for the trip.
Our country was founded on taking care of ourselves, helping our friends, and dealing with our enemies in a harsh and decisive manner when needed.
I believe we have forgotten where we came from, how we got here, and lost the direction we are going.

Sounds like a plan. Do you know where we can find these folks and pay them a little extra this time to really extinguish these cavemen?
Otherwise, good points. And yes the liberals would be hiding under their mommas skirt if the doodoo was to hit the fan. What to you expect from men that love each other?
