Not much hunting here this time of year and I spend some of my time backpacking the various areas close to home, usually 3-4 days.
These are from a 3 day trip into what are called the Adirondaks High Peaks area.Just as the local Catskills have 35 peaks over 3500 feet high....the Adirondaks have 46 over 4000,with 2 over 5000(highest 5300,1600 meters).4500 is above tree line here and qualifies for alpine terrain and has its own unique vegetation.
Did 32 miles(50 kms) or so in 3 days making a base camp after the hike in,then a full days hike with day packs, then a walk out.Did Colden on the way in,the Mcintyre range of 4 peaks back to camp via Avalanche pass, and out via Av. pass and Marcy Dam.
(hey.....I just noticed I have been on this board for one year today;and haven't been kicked off yet!
