Probably from the Liberals in Germany feeling that modern Germany should still be apoligising for acts that are now history, and need to continue on in shame.

Modern Germany should not feel shamefull, or forget the past, any more than the US should feel shamefull and try to forget and hide slavery. By hiding bad things that happened in the past, it only leaves the door open for other groups or individuals to take power, and make decisions that lead to misery.

History is most important, and should be remembered good and bad.

I agree with you, however, history is written by human beens. I have learned a hard way back in Russia that it depends on the current leader/dectator. Regarding the history of the 20th century I have my own version that is very different with the official one.
1. If Germany did not give money to Lenin, there would not be Socialism in Russia
2. If Soviet Union did not supported Germany in late 1920s and 1930s . Germany been under the preasure of the Versal agreement, it wouldn't be able to build strong military machine. Many of the famous German generals got their military education in USSR.
3. If Stalin had not planned to invade Europe on July,1 1941, Hitler would not invade Russia on June 22 1941 as a preventive measure. For Hitler it was a suicide mission to open Eastern front, having two already in progress: Western and Southern. Stalin's idea was to take over the whole weakened Europe using Hitler as a instrument in that evil plan. The nature of agressive war and defensive war are very different: different strategy and different priorities. If you want to defend something - you reinforce your borders, build strong fortifications, mine every bridge, field, forest and road and concentrate most of your power on the background. Staling concentrated all airplanes, tanks, manpower etc. right on the border. He gave order to dismine all the border bridges. He had several times more military power in weapons and men on the June,21 1941 than Hitler had. However, tanks were there, but ammunition had not came yet; airplanes were there , but the fuel had not arrived yet; artillery was there, but ammo for it was on the way... I just would lijke to point on one fact: why if Russiand were prepairing to defend their country, their officers had topographical maps for other eurupean countries but not their own??? Without them artillery is useless! Why Russian soldies had russian-german pocjket dictionaries in their pockets??? Did they plan to ask locals the best way for retreat in German language??? This list I can coninue for a long time...
Personaly I hate fashism, their ideology and deeds. I hate communists as well!
Unfortunately we will never know the whole truth about the 20th century. Because there are politics of many countries involved and politicians are not ready to tell the truth to their own peoples regardless the country.

Yes, there was such an idea with the help of Marshalls Plan (the first Nukes), However it did not work for many reasons. First of all the US was too late to get into this game. Second - Patton never even thought to put a detachment with machineguns BEHIND your own attacking troops to make sure that for them there is one and only way - forward. Stalin and his scambacks had invented this tactic in early 1942...

Living in India, we have had a lot of interaction with Russian families, and can understand the difficulties a lot of you went through.

But that was then, and now you are in the Promised Land even though Mother Russia will always remain in your heart where it rightfully should be.

So let bygones be bygones and lets see some dazzling new innovations in grip caps instead

My problem with Russia was that I am a German, born in Russia and that coused half of my family been shot by communists and the rest spent many years in Stalins concentration camps (the inventor of those was V.I.Ulyanov-Lenin not Hitler).
In respect to the gifted Artist from Ukraine I am droping this subject.
