Here is a song written in the 60s about the American Civil War. It was written by a Canadian, the song came to him in a dream. It has been performed by many groups, but most are from the southern USA. The lead singer of THE BAND, that performs this song, was a draft dodger during the Vietnam war. Interesting how things happen.

Re: Interesting History Song
All these guy's still live in the Town of Woodstock.....Thats about 30 minutes from me.
I did the trim work in one of the founding members new recording studio.....Levon Helm, the guy singing.
He does these great Saturday night concerts with who ever shows up. Sometimes Bob Dylan, Melissa Etheridge, Steve Miller, Neil Young.....countless names just show up to play. He always has a main guest and it just goes from there; there's always surprise guests. Most of them are on tour and there are several recording studios in my area. Phil Lesh (Grateful Dead founder) has a place near his and shows up to play alot in the area.

Tickets are real hard to come by for most of them.
Maybe you Texas guy's can go...he has one coming to Austin
As for the Viet Nam stuff....I think its real hard to judge from a different place and time. I have one Uncle who was severely wounded in VN and one of the same family who protested. They are the only two of a family of 11 kids who get along beside my mother and one sister. You did what you thought at the time was right. I don't think you can hold a kid....and at 18 or 19 you are just a kid...for those actions one way or another.
On Mr. Helm..... He is a regular donor to many causes here in the Hudson Valley. Several school districts art and music programs are funded through his concerts locally. He does several benefits for 2 local theaters (Bardavon in Poughkeepsie,UPAC in Kingston)and for the main hospital in Kingston for the childrens ward.
