Aus rail scope options

Was talking to the Swaro rep yesterday, they only receive what Swarovski send them regardless what's ordered and they don't know what is being shipped until it's in transit to Australia. Covid is having a big impact on everyone at the moment and demand is far outstripping supply.

I know it sucks, but you just have to be patient.

That's a bit manure, buying what you want from optics trade might be worth the extra premium in the end

They will have the same issues as we do, nobody can escape the Covid Pandemic.

And buying OS gives you no Warranty protection here. I had a Customer hand me a faulty Z8i which at the time I didn't know was a Grey import and once the Importer confirmed this by checking the Serial number, he was left on his own accord to fix it. Last I heard it was still a paper weight.

It is not that simple as to just sending it back to Austria for repair because it is illegal to send Shooting accessories out of Australia without a Dept of Defence Export permit.

I've sent heaps over seas with no issues. Only last year I sent fired brass to get dies made no problems at all. I sent my kahles scope back to Austria to be re sealed and repaired no issues at all. They did an awesome job with a full report of what they did with new scope caps as well. But you are right about covid as its not just gun stuff, its everything. Buy in bulk guys as its going to get super hard soon to get things.

If you have decided on rail mount scopes (which is a good choice) simply order what you want through the Australian channels from Zeiss, Swaro or Leica, sit back and wait. Directly importing high end optics is not worth the aggravation and cost of customs clearance, warranty service and so on.

Theo has somewhat overstated the issues of exporting scopes from Aus., but postage is expensive, and it will still be a PITA to get your scope back to Europe and have it returned to you, even more so with covid and some of the bullshit excuses being dreamed up by some Euro postal services in regard to shipping to Aus.

Also make sure you don't trip yourself up by ending up with mismatched scope and rail mount. There are differences between the rails on different brand of rail scope

If you get itchy just buy a ring mount and a Leupy to get you by. I can assure that you will find a use for the ring mount, even when your rails arrive.

There's no such thing as having too many Blaser mounts.

I suspect it may also fit Docter, but I am not sure.

I’m come to the conclusion that Australia is just not geared up to rails as much as Europe.. and understandably it’s probably because every man and his dog shoots a Tikka so there isn’t the need / want for them.

So with searching high and low ive decided to go with scope rings for now to get me rolling and when I can take the time to wait months for a scope to come into stock.. I’ll move to rail. But in order to get me out shooting when this gun arrives I’ll go with rings.
