I prefer a veritable for stalking, I love my old Swarovski 1.6-6 but I do admit having forgotten that I cranked it up to 6 power and only seeing brown hair 🤪☹️

marauder wrote: Thu Jun 24, 2021 4:51 am Hello,

I’m trying to choose a scope for a 22 LR barrel on a Blaser R8. The centerfire barrels will wear Swarovski Z8i with BTF elevation turrets.

Key things for me are something that is fairly lightweight, able to have correct parallax and focus at close distances (50m or less), and some way of compensating for bullet drop (whether that be ballistic turrets or a reticle).

Open to first or second focal plane, but don’t want a 1FP with high magnification as then the reticles are too thin at lower magnifications. Magnification of 9x to 15x on the top end should be plenty.

Budget is flexible. Happy to hear suggestions regardless of price.

On the shortlist I have:

Meopta Optika5 2.5-10x42 Rimfire ZPlus (25mm tube, 2FP, ballistic reticle, capped turrets, min parallax 10m, weight 590g)

ZEISS Conquest V4 4-16x44 with ASV (30mm tube, 2FP, various reticle options, ASV ballistic turret option, min parallax 10m, weight 640g)

Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44 P BT (25mm tube, 2FP, duplex reticle with ballistic turrets, min parallax 50m, weight 450g)

Nightforce SHV 4-14x50 F1(30mm tube, 1FP, MRAD reticle and exposed ballistic turrets, min parallax 25m, weight 850g)

What are your recommendations?
I just ordered one of these to try out

Meopta Optika5 2.5-10x42 Rimfire ZPlus (25mm tube, 2FP, ballistic reticle, capped turrets, min parallax 10m, weight 590g)

Been told to expect delivery sometime later in the year.

If this scope doesn’t cut it for range work….then I’ll probably try the V4 4-16 x 44.

If I do get into serious LR stuff 🙈 then I’ll bite the bullet and go Voodoo and NF.

I finally got my Vudoo with the Maners PRS 1, mini chassis and Area 409 Swiss ARCA rail put together and gave it a test run earlier this week. I don’t yet have the scope I want on it as I haven’t decided between the Nightforce ATACR 7-35 or Zero Compromise 5-27. We have a big NRL22 match tomorrow at my club so hope to get to spend some time with each to help decide which way to go. I shot this five shot group with my Nightforce 15-55 Competition at 50 yards. With a 40MOA cant picatinny base I can’t sight it in as close as 50 yards but it was nice to see this group from the case of Midas+ I bought for it. The group measures .242”

Not too bad Robert. I reckon with a little more perserverance and practice it won't be too long before you shoot a really tight group.

Cheers

Oh, cool! Are there none available currently? No specific ETA?

Funny that you guys mention the Vudoo. I have a Vudoo V-22 with Manners PRS-1 stock (with Gen 2 DBM mini chassis). Very accurate and cool rifle, although I haven't shot it a lot and probably am not doing it justice. It's actually one of the guns I'm considering selling to fund the expansion of the Blaser collection.

None in stock with the importer. Best ETA I could get was a few months.

My R8 22 LR with it’s preferred ammunition, Eley EPS Match, will shoot just as accurate as my Vudoo with lot selected Lapua Midas+. But as the range increases beyond 100 yards the Vudoo pulls away and leaves the R8 behind. This may simply be an ammunition issue, my R8 does not like the Lapua ammo so I can’t do a straight up comparison, but it defies what I think I know about accuracy. At 300 yards the Vudoo is under 1 MOA and the Blaser has opened to 2.5-3 MOA.

That has to be the ammunition, if they both shoot the same at 100m,but it changes past that then the only variable is ammunition selection

I just chucked this V4 4-16x44 on the trusty 243 and I think it would be a fine scope for a good 22 rifle

Nothing wrong with the Zero tech for a cheapy with an unconditional life time warranty for low recoil guns like a 22 to plink at 50m. :handgestures-thumbup:
