Any Tyler area Blaser fans?
I plan to retire to the Tyler area in a few years after spending a long time in the oil industry in Saudi Arabia. I grew up in Tyler but moved away in 1972.
I plan to get a house built in an out of city limits addition where I can get a 1 acre or larger lot.
I plan to do this in Robert E Lee Tyler or Whitehouse school district.
I am in Texas right now on my annual repatriation leave. Can anyone recommend any semi-rural sub divisions underway or any builders I might want to visit while here?
What outdoor Rifle/pistol ranges are there in the area and how do I find them?
Any skeet ranges?
Is "Lock-N-Load" the only indoor range?
I'll also be looking to find a deer lease and some guys to share the expense with - preferably one where we can shoot some hogs and other varmits as well. So I can exercise my .22-250, .270, and 9.3x62 R-93 barrels.

I can't help you with any of your Tyler area questions, but I live in Nacogdoches and thought maybe we could meet up sometime.

We'll definitely have to get together and compare 9.3 load recipes.
This trip will be too hectic but I am hoping next year will be more relaxed.

East Texas is definately a good place to live.
I do not know exactly how close you want to be to Tyler, but there is also some good land in a triangle in the area from Canton to Athens, to Tyler and back to Canton.
If you are worried about schools for kids Ben Wheeler schools are suosed to be pretty good.
There is one private gun club that sometimes has openings. If you look on a Texas Map the range is near Purtis Creek State Park.
We have a rifle range to 500 yards.
There are a lot of good black bass, crappie, and catfishing lakes around this area as well.

My wife is a good deal younger and I have twin daughters that will start first grade one month before my mandatory retirement date. So good schools is a must. I lived in Tyler growing up from '63 to '72 and have a brother and sister living there. So close to Tyler would be good.NE450No2 wrote:Brazos Jack

I do like fishing for crapie and other pan fish and also catfish.
I'm hoping to have a big enough lot outside of city limits to get away with practicing with an air rifle in the back yard if I build a 6' to 8' privacy fence.
What part of Texas are you in? I thought you were in the Houston area. Being in the oil industry, I've lived there a couple of times. The last time was on the West side outside the Beltway.

I grew up in the Dallas area. I now live in the Tyler, Canton, Athens triangle. I LOVE it here.
My wife grew up near here, and her mom and dad, and a couple of here sisters live nearby.
My place is in the "country" not in any city limits...

Speaking of younger women and good schools, I tried to find me a much younger wife, but the police tell me not to go within 500 yards of a school. They make things so difficult these days.Brazos_Jack wrote:My wife is a good deal younger and I have twin daughters that will start first grade one month before my mandatory retirement date.
