7x57r reloading?
Hi all , I'm about to take delivery of a new single shot 7x57r rifle and intend to reload for it from the start. I have purchased Hornady 7x57r dies but was wondering if I should use the Lee collett die for the case neck and then use a body die such as the Redding. Or could I get the same results by taking the deprimer and expander steam out of the hornady fl die to resize the body of the case . My reasoning for this is to get optimum tension by not overworking the case neck to stop run out and also to keep the body sized for easy extraction every time . I'd be interested to hear members thoughts on what they do for these rimmed cartridges as this is the first time I have reloaded for this cartridge.

Re: 7x57r reloading?
With my 7x65R I measure the headspace of a twice fired case, then bump the shoulder back 4 thou under that dimension. I use a full length die without the expander button or Deprimer.
I then just expand the neck with a 21st century expander mandrel.
This is for a BD14, but I do the same process for all calibres, except my 7x64 R8. But only that one barrel.
I seem to get very low runout useing this method.

Re: 7x57r reloading?
Your welcome. I think either of the methods you describe above would work fine and extend case life. I am a big believer in full length resizing. But I don’t like to over resize a case if it’s not needed. But I have to keep reminding myself that I am not a target shooter, and that reliable function is the most important thing. It’s easy to get lost in the rabbit hole.
Even with my big bore cartridges I keep an eye on the headspace length. Of course I allow a lot more reliability margins for these cartridges. But even if I reduce the amount I need to resize these cartridges by a small amount it’s gotta help increase case life.

I have redding 7x57 dies. I fls my 7x57R with it. Brass is RWS. I'm probably done 5 reloads with current brass. I used to load it hot. 45gr of 2209 with 175gr interlock for many years.
I'm looking at 140gr nosler ballistic tips now.
