The hotel I stayed at is, for lack of a better term, a fortress. This car was at the entrance.
Almost 50 years of independence and plenty of decline to show for it.

Re: Non-hunting adventures
That is so sad to see.
On another note, good on you for doing the track.
Kokoda and Gallipoli are two very significant places of Australian history.
I had two uncles at Milne Bay in the Toowoomba 25th battalion , but not Kokoda. My grandfather also had a brother on the European eastern front (you read that correctly).
What a bloody horrible waste of life war is…

Re: Non-hunting adventures
An uncle of mine also fought at Milne Bay. He didn’t talk much about the war…but I once heard him say that he was over all the attention that the Kokoda campaign received in later years..” we beat the Japs at Milne Bay and no one mentions that “ was all he said about that. If he was still alive I reckon he’d give me an ear full for doing Kokoda before visiting Milne Bay.9.3x64 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 4:12 am That is so sad to see.

None of my relatives fought in the Kokoda campaign.
My uncle was a good man. A great role model, generous and always ready to help us kids out.
And yes…..what a waste of life war is.

My Grandfather used to say “ We turned them around for the first time at Milne Bay. The first time the Japanese Imperial Army was turned around…”
