I’ve just ordered a .222 Remington barrel for my K95, has anyone used the Sierra 63gr smp projectile in theirs? I intend to use it on deer here in New Zealand.
I see in other rifles with a 1:14 twist the stability varies from rifle to rifle.
I do have some Sierra 55gr if 63gr won’t work.

I can’t help with the info you are after Stu, but look forward to hearing how you get on with this.

Re: 222 rem K95 loads
I have not tried the Sierra 63gr. smp, I just assumed they would be to heavy to stabilize. I wanted a "deer" load for my 222 k95 and BD14 so I went with the Barnes 45grn TSX bullet. I have not shot a deer with it yet but squirrels, chipmunks, fox, coyote, raccoon all died quite well. I also shoot Lapua factory soft points that I have heard are tougher than most US bullets but no proof of that. Both my barrels were not the easiest to find a load for but when I found it they are great shooters. I hope this helps.

Re: 222 rem K95 loads
Hi Stu,
I am currently playing, with my new K95 5.6x50R barrel, and with the 63gr Serria SMP, looks very good, about to go down to shed and load 30-40 rounds, as well as sum 52gr hollow points to try.
The 5.6 is 1-12 twist, i think the .222 is 1-14 twist,
my old sako .222 1-14 would shot them into a 1.5" group at 100m, Not as good as normal but enough for deer, i also tried the 70 gr Speer, about 2" if i remember correctly, but it didn't much matter back in the late 80's was mostly bush hunting the North Island and shots were close.
I think you will be on the edge of stability, so they may not work for you with a .222,
How much did a spare barrel burn you,

Re: 222 rem K95 loads
I’ve got the new barrel, and Blaser now make them a 1:12” twist. So far I’ve tried a 60gr Hornady SP. With ADI Benchmark 2 22.8gr gave 3000 fps.
So far only done load testing one round each from 21.5, 21.8, 22.1, 22.5 and 22.8. It was one ragged group at 25m. Will sight in with the 22.8gr load at 100yd soon

Sighted in the 60gr Hornady load. 3 shot group at 100 yds was 3/8” centre to centre. Velocity was 2990 fps. Very happy with the load and accuracy. See the 222 Remington load database for full info.
