New Member from Colorado
Hello, new member here from Colorado after living in Europe for many years. I have hunted Europe, Africa and the US. After using an R93 and R8 in Europe, I recently took the plunge and picked up an R8 in .308 and already have a line on a .257 Weatherby barrel with break.
I am currently in the process of setting up the R8 with a high ring quick detachable mount and some sort of scope. Open to suggestions.
Glad to be here.
Jeff

Good to have you. For scope, what you liked in Europe will be fine.

Re: New Member from Colorado
Welcome - there's lot of good hunting here in Colorado, but we have a continuing struggle with a Governor and a large anti-gun population in the Denver/Boulder corridor wanting to restrict, tax, and/or outlaw firearms . . .
Since I don't shoot game at "long ranges" (above 300-350 yards), I find scopes in the 2-12x variable range ideal, or maybe even just 2-10x, but low-light performance can be very important.
Regards,

Welcome to Blaserbuds. Colorado is a special place, too bad the liberals have Californiaized it.
My favorite scope is the Swarovski Z8i 1.7-13.4X42 SR. That is an expensive scope but there are none better for big game from 0-600 yards. At a more reasonable price point the Leupold VX6 3-18X42 is a great scope. I own six of these. All mine are the V1 version but they just came out with the V2 which is changed very little. I was just looking at the V2 last week at the Shot Show. One change is that the zero set requires no hex key, it’s a tool less design now. The other is the throw lever is now integrated rather than a clamp on. Neither of those improvements are important to me, but they don’t hurt anything either.
I use several first focal plane scopes for tactical and target work but highly prefer second focal plane scopes for hunting, especially if any of it will be done at close fast speed.
