Barrel storage

Post by DanW »

Hello,
I’m trying to figure out the best way to store my R93 barrels while not in use. I started with my first r93 and 1 barrel about a year ago and have upgraded to 4(5th barrel was shipped today). And I’m looking for ways everyone stores them. I read about Blaser Quick Change Barrel bags that are a neoprene bag that is apparently alright to store and hang the barrels in for space saving while keeping them safe. But I cant find anywhere in Canada (Ontario) that sells them. Any tips or experience would be appreciated. Thanks

I've been using the Blaser neoprene sock but there are lots of other solutions presented here.

You can buy them directly from the Blaser store, or you could. I did…

I have been using the socks for a few years now. I live near the ocean in a humid environment. I have never had any issues with rust.
It’s also handy that they are slightly padded, when getting them in and out of the safe.
I really like them.

I use mesh sleeves that I think were developed to hold fishing rods. While protecting the surface finish of the barrel, they "breathe", so moisture can't collect and be held against the barrel. I just tie an overhand knot in one end, and slip the barrel in the sleeve. Then you can slide the barrels into the container of your choice. The color coding of the sleeves can be used to distinguish different barrel chamberings.

About $20 USD for 10 sleeves: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M8SDX5D

Yeah, it’s getting pretty expensive. I’m pretty sure I paid $11 for a pint at the RSL the other night.

That actually isn't that bad. $50 for a case of 24 bottles. Maybe 30-40% more than America, but the exchange rate probably cancels it out.

Here in Germany exchange rates is 1 USD per 85-90 Euro Cents. Bier is cheap as chips though. Cheaper than anything. Even really expensive fancy small batch brewery stuff is less than $7 a bottle. Normal regular small brewery beer is $1-2 a bottle. Big brewery beer is $10-15 a case of 20.

Inexpensive beer is a sign of advanced civilization. Or something like that.
