Removal of front sight on R8

Post by Alan Steckler »

I am considering buying an R8 Pro Hunter with a Selous 416 rem mag barrel. Can the front sight be removed to accommodate a suppressor? I will soon be 81 and the older I get the more I don’t like significant recoil. The rifle comes with a kickstop. I think that with a suppressor and the kickstop the recoil will be mitigated significantly. I own an R8 chambered in 375 H&H and the suppressor has mitigated recoil. So back to the question: can the front sight be removed?

Yes. I had BlaserUSA do it for me.

Have the outfit that threads it remove the sight. There is only one authorized barrel threader. I think it's Briley.

Getting the blade off is unconventional but easy. There is a thread here somewhere and a search will find it

I don't recall if the base is simply screwed on, but you will be able to see if it is or not when you remove the blade.

There is a post stuck into the metal with epoxy. This will have to be cut off. Then some black cold blue can be used to cover the work.

The problem with just removing the sights is that the post remains pissing you off.

The post is screwed in. Just grab it with some pliers and unscrew it. I’m checking to see about some filler screws to cover the hole.

Also, I am the authorized barrel threading person.

Here is a Selous barrel that I moved the front sight back and installed a brake.

Filler screws are available for the hole after removing the post.
