Drillings and Predators

I can't seem to post a picture, so you'll have to click on the links.

Old(1906) German drilling in 16ga/16ga/9.3x72R I took it ot a SxS shotgun shoot in AZ to shoot in the 16ga trap event. The rancher that was holding the event knew I was a predator hunter and asked me if I'd see what I could do with the local coyotes harassing his calves. Not expecting to be doing any predator hunting I didn't bring any gear along. I rumaged through the van and found three 16ga 2.5" shells loaded with an ounce of Nickel Plated BB's, a mouth call always hangs on the rearview mirror and a Walmart camo jacket. The coyote came into forty paces looking for a free meal and won't be harassing calves any longer. Since then I bring a little 20 cal rifle and help with the coyote problem at his ranch.

This is the drilling that is my goto for predator hunting. Another Old(1926) Wilkes drilling in 16ga/16ga/6.5x58R Sauer & Sohn. I load the above mention 1 once shotshells for it and swag 95gr Speers down to fit it's narrow .260 groove diameter.

I find that the drilling is perfect for close in work, lots of called coyotes in tighter cover will be under 50 yards and the drilling will be fast handling but every once in a while one will sit out there a hundred yards and survey the situation, deciding if it is really a free lunch.

I rolled one at 35 yards with the first barrel and I don't think he knew where the shot came from and was just trying to escape and ran straight at me and I killed him at one long pace with the other barrel. I ended up killing two of the four that came in on that stand.

Beautiful drillings.
100 years old and still doing what they were built for. Well done.
Life is too short to hunt with an ugly dog.
