Legislation lunacy in Australia (AGAIN)

A place to discuss regulations, or the over regulation in most case, that our members have to deal with in their respective countries. Hopefully discussion will lead to more rules based on common sense, rather than fears by the government.

Yeah John, traveling internationally and interstate may become a bit more difficult. And I guess if Vic does go down the NSW road then you won’t have to worry about transiting NSW. Which just goes to show that if you look hard enough you’ll find silver in every dark cloud :D

Anyway, hopefully Queensland has dodged the bullet this time. And if we haven’t then I’ll cross the bridges as I get to them.

As to the idea of barstardising the R8 by altering the action....nah, not for me.

Today I held a 505 synthetic. Bolt action was very smooth, non binding. Took sling swivel out and pulled out front stock and then took out barrel. Needed to crack Allen bolt 1 and 3 with separate allen key as they were too tight from factory. Rifle almost as light as the R93. I like it.

I’ve done what Charles did and sent letters to each vic state MP. Took a couple hours and I’ve got a few responses. Got to try something. But yes the 505 might be the new kid on the block. But there’s not many around and I think theres is a bit of a back order on them before this happened.

I had a look at one as well in synthetic stock. Awesome rifle great thing is the Blaser scope mounts fit. I can see a big market in Australia for switch barrel setups from now on. They use to laugh at us for having a switch barrel set up.

Which model do you guys prefer, the standard stock synthetic or the pistol grip ? If you have held the standard synthetic with no pistol grip, did you find that the butt gave enough cheek support?

I tried the standard synthetic and just found the stock was a bit short. Would need a couple of spaces. I could also see check support been I touch sort, but my R93 is the same.

Thanks mate, appreciate the honest judgement. I have the same issue with a lot of rifles. I always seem to need a bit more cheek support than what most standard rifles have.

I'd didn't try the gun with a scope and I didn't try cheek roses model.

I spent a bit of time talking to people in the know.
I have it from well informed people that NT, Qld, Tas and SA do want to change any act. Vic will be subject to review which starts in a few months and will take several months to do. Some things being discussed are all straight pull and pump guns become cat B. Release type shotguns may go into Cat C. No discussion on number of firearms changing yet.

Nothing is going to happen without a lot of consultation. I understand all organisations are working together and will not be talking to press or politicians until the terms of reference are determined for the review.

Also I heard WA will not be reclassifying straight pull rifles to cat C.

Hey Chuck, is the above what you meant to say, or did you mean to say “do not want to change any act?”

Hope you’re right mate. What a shame our Premier acted like such a knob.
