Why I prefer scopes with rail for hunting

We all know that mounting a scope is not something that everyone can do. Anyway with a scope with rail and some basic tools I believe almost everyone is capable of doing it. And that is not the most important part. On a nice rifle like our beloved Blaser a railed scope is much nicer. Only way to go no matter what rifle you're using. It's such a simple installation and anyone with basic skills can accomplish it in seconds. Biggest plus is your scope remains nice and not damaged with unsightly ring marks. Purchased a Zeiss Conquest some years back that came with Talley rings on it. When I removed them, I found the scope tube was dented. Seen many a scope with serious ring marks caused by Talley rings. Gunsmith buddy says they can be installed without doing damages which is very true. Issue is very few folks have a clue as to how to do it without leaving ring marks and they are too cheap (and or proud) to have a smith do it.

Also, some idiot invented the 2/3 ring that snaps over the barrel of the scope, almost guaranteeing a scratch. I hate the design with a fiery burning passion, but occasionally there's no choice. Leupold, Innomount, and Dentler all make these criminal devices.

DITTO! I recall hearing there was a good reason but in my opinion it was about as stupid a move as anyone could make. And of course everybody else had to climb on too. Whenever I see an old Blaser Mount with rings as long as it's not crazy high, I pick it up. I have a few of the new ones and hate using them but they didn't give us much choice.
