I've already got some factory Hornady that looks pretty good on paper. Plan on picking some more up but not sure what year. Something for plinking...

For hunting deer or pigs the Hornady 240gr XTP would be a good choice.

For plinking I would try to fine some commercial reloads with 240 gr lead bullets.
Black Hills or some of the stuff Cabelas has bought in bulk is at a pretty good price.

Also the Magtec 240gr SP 44 Mag ammo shoots pretty good. I would see no problem using it for deer and pigs at the place you will be shooting. Cabelas and Midway has it for a good price if you buy a case of it.

I picked up a box of 200 XTP (999# at the muzzle, 635# at 100 yards) and 180 XTP (960 # at muzzle, 550 # at 100 yards). I looked at the 240 (971 # at the muzzle, 685 # at 100). Figured the little lighter one packed the same wallop or more and might be a bit flatter. In the end I go with the one that's more accurate. Still no idea when or what he's going to do with the so called corn crop. Hope it's out of the field pretty soon so I can have the range back!

Never shot Black Hills but hear good stuff about it. Was thinking about trying the Buffalo Bore stuff but the Hornady looks potent enough. Why you going 240 for plinking? Would think the lighter bullet would be less recoil and do about the same damage...

Since you might get a chance to shoot a pig, and it could be a big one I would stay with a 240gr bulletas a minium. Your shots will be from 25 to say 40 yards...

By using a 240gr lead bullet for you plinking loads it will be more likely to hit at or very near the same place as your full power loads...

I been shooting the 44 Mag since 1970...
