Learn To Speak German

Post by Corjack »

I am trying to learn to speak german, so I am going to post what I learn, so that others can learn also, and others that all ready know might correct me when I am in error.

Equal= Egal is pronounced like EAGLE

Wall= Die Mauer. Mauer is pronounced like MAUSER, without the S. I am not sure if die is pronounced like DI or DEE, so maybe someone could help me there.

Spit= Fauchen, it is pronounced like FOWKEN and sounds a lot like FALKON the bird.

Age= Das Alter, and Alter is pronounced like the ALTAR you would find in a church. I believe that Das is pronounced like DOS with a long O.

I will post a couple more tomorow.

Ah a new language Corjack, viel spass :D

Naturally there are many dialects involved, where I'm at Egal is more pronounced Agal, long A. I'd say learn the alphabet first, it will assist.

Mauer pronounced here more in rhyme with tower.

I'd say spit is more Spucken, Fauchen is more like growling.

Of course, it's one thing to learn out of the book and quite another to put into practice! Das is das, no long O here, not as in Vase, I can't think of an English word to give a good example on that one. Of the three der, die, das -- they kill me. Just remember die is plural, I use it a lot! Der is masculine, die is feminine -- but there is no rhyme or reason, for instance it's der Loeffel (Spoon) aber (but) die Gabel (Fork), und das Messer (Knife) Morgan gehts weiter, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

. . . und eine Gute Rutsch.

Es ist viel schweriger Deutsch zu Schreiben als zu Sprechen.

English - German, they're both the same to me  There are actually many, many English words derived from German, just not put together the same way.

Corjack, your homework, but first try it without Babbel or others: Wenn der Wind blaest, sollte die Jaeger zuhause bleiben.

English was developed from Norman soldiers need to communicate with Saxon barmaids during negotations for the price of sexual favors.
