Boy that is way up north. It gives a true meaning to the phrases ’Sitting on Top of the World’ and ‘It’s All Down Hill From Here’.

It seems to have an austere understated beauty to it. I wonder what their highest average temperature is during the summer months. It’s suppose to reach 109ºf here in Bakersfield today.

Thanks mate. Yep, the track is both physically and mentally challenging. I upped my training considerably for a couple of months before the walk….. and I reckon I was only just fit enough. 10 days of climbing, sliding and playing in mud. My biggest day was 24 kms with a gain of just over 1500 metres and a loss of 900 metres in elevation.

It’s the only time I’ve been bush without a rifle and happy not to be carrying one.

Great going!! Would very much like to do that walk. But why is it called the Kokoda "trail"? Imagine doing it while suffering from malaria, dysentry and tick typhus...

I think most Australians refer to it as the “track” , I do. As to the arches at both ends…..well, one side says “Kokoda Trail “ and the reverse side says “Kokoda Track ”. I have no idea why.

Fighting along it in the war would have been hell. There are plenty of relics still laying around and the remnants of gun pits, trenches etc.

As to diseases….malaria is still prevalent. One of my group went down with malaria on the second day. Poor bugger was walked out and spent over a week in hospital before returning home to Oz.

I’m glad I did it.
