And yes the 9.3 is too boring as everyone got 9.3 here in DK and some believe they can shoot elephants with no problems at all :?
they can REALLY shoot elephants with the 9.3!
when angola and moçambique were portuguese colonies, my grandfather starts to shoot elephants for ivory with an army 8mm mauser 98 (and many guys do the same with 303 lee enfield), because is the only gun he has as a duty gun. of course he shoots far, to hearth or lungs, in a protected position, because it was not gun enough to stop a charge.
after that he bought a 9.3x62 mauser 98 bolt, and he took several elephants and cape buffalos and he said he stopped some charges of both with it and some custom made solid copper bullets done by a local center lathe with a commercial copper round bar. some years after he finally bought a 375 HH.
unfortunately he losts all guns in 1975 independance process, and never more was hunter till he dies.

It depends on proper bullets, not on specific "calibers" (took some really big stuff in Africa myself, with my plane jane 8,5)...

With my 9,3x74R double rifle I have shot giraffe, my biggest cape buff, a one shot kill, and an elephant at less than 5 yards, one shot side brain.

All easily duplicated with a 9,3x62.

Gentlemen, I wrote a too long reply and lost it on a corection attempt. I have read and rered your comments about the 8.5 reb and am still digesting them. Long story short, I hunt with a Kawasaki Mule (throw rocks if you wish, but it an' going to change.) The Mule and I are hard on stuff and I'm reluctant to put an expensive rifle on the machine. Always banging something on the sreering or the safety cage. Once ran over my contender carbine. Low pressure tires saved it. It bounced out of a gun rack. The safety features of Blaser appeal in this application, but.......Thanks again for your input, Jack
