SCI Report--pic heavy

Post by 505Ed »

Well, the travel to Reno was horrible. Delays, snow--cold weather. I had to come across from CA. It was no fun. Well I thought the attendence was a bit light, but there was a ton of stuff to see. I like DSC, I love SCI!

I did not see our fellow members much, as we were all helping others at the show.

I helped Luxus Walnut at there booth, they are the largest importer of Turkish walnut in the US. They sell wood to the likes of Westley Richards, FAMARS, Fabbri, Frilib, and custom markers like Empire rifles, and Lon Paul.

Here we are at the Luxus booth--Clay (one of the owners--in the white hat) is going to advertise on our blaser buds site! They cut there wood in the garden of eden. They have some great looking wood--top shelf

I even helped them sell one of there doubles, Grandpa buying his 18 year old grandson his first double!!

I had to make the rounds-- well I found myself at the Blaser booth-- Looked at the R8, and as much as I did not want to like it, I did! It has a really nice feel-- although it is either going to be left or right handed, due to the cut of the stock. The trigger system works well and from the reports the cost will be 5-10% more. Bigger calibers are to come like the 458 lott and 500 jeffery. Here she is!!!!

I also went by Mauser and Sauer-- I will have to own a Mauser M03, they are well built and I think my next "buy". The Sauer 202 takedown is a fabulous weapon but at 8G's hard to swallow. I'd take one if I had Corjack's money :D .

Here is Sauer and Mausers booth-- Thorston Mann is setting and Lee at Sauer USA is in the cowboy hat with his back to the camera--in front of Thorston.

Our very own mauserman working hard at the Blaser USA booth--showing off!!

I then made it by Eurooptics--saw our very own Corjack working hard with Alex Roy selling all kinds of Scopes, Blasers and Sakos.

They even tried to sell me a R93-- I had to get out of there!!!

I finished out the day just looking around-- getting ideas for mounts. Looking for good deals on hunts, and talking with friends. Maybe one day we can all get together at one of these and have a night out!

Thanks for the report...I wished I could have gone this year, but it wasn't in the cards. Then with the weather guess it was just as well.

My friend had alot of his taxidermy all over and I would have liked to see them out of the studio. :(

I'll see Alex Roy in a few weeks though and Blaser in Pa. so guess thats OK.

Damn its a small world as I just contacted Luxus about a piece of wood a couple of weeks ago! Then show season started and have been waiting for a reply.

Yaa...I emailed Adam some pics,he needed better so I re-sent them and called him to tell him so a couple of days just before Christmas .

But I knew show season was coming and the holidays just before that,so I figured to follow up when DSC then Reno was over....

Hopefully I didn't get lost with all the big spenders out there at the shows.....guess this could be a good litmus test on customer service

To be fair I told him I was in no paticular hurry, and I know they have bigger fish to fry on the show circuit.I've helped out at a few also, and glad I don't have to make a living that way. It's not much fun to sit in them booths.I will have to see how the Blaser folks can do 10 days at Harrisburg, with some kid with sticky fingers handling the merchandise  It's a giant flea market mixed in with outfitters.

I know this was a question for Ed, but I am feeling the need to try a M03 too. I am not very imaginative, and mine will be synthetic stocked with a short barrel in either 308 or 9.3x62.Image

I don't think we can hold a candle to the gear there. Although Mialls may slip one or two R8s in. I can feel the force.

Dinsdale, thanks for the warning about the Harrisburg show, now I won't even try to make that one. Sounds like Dallas and Reno are nicer.

I dont know--Mauserman and I will have to make a deal-- I'd really like a 8x86s and 375 combo safari contour. I might just do a regular gun and buy a Sauer 202 one of these days for a carry across the pond gun. I forget I'm saving to hunt more :D -- I know I'm a gun junkey!!!

For the East coast...it's what we have

It's OK...huge building,for those that know Reno;about 3x the floor space.

Lots of fishing charters along the east coast and fishing outfitters all over the east and Canada.A few NZ guys, bunch of PG guy's from South Africa and a few from Namibia. Some western US guys, alot with high fence elk.

If you go looking to talk to specific outfitters or specific products its just OK.

There used to be a booth from Hendershot's(a gun dealer in Maryland) with a guy that had some serious Blaser inventory. He's not there any more. That was my introduction to Blaser products.

Never been to DSC,Reno a couple of times....I think its great, and I like that it's exclusive for admission.Harrisburg is a show that people go to for the day for entertainment, just like a county fair. They are a some serious buyers but lots of kids with sticky fingers from cotton candy that run up and down the aisles(sorry, cant stand unruley kids)....Most who go are "whistle gophers";that is they see a Kudu mount and let out a big sigh and comment how far away Africa is,and that someone would actually go there!

I want to go and see a R8,this is the first time Blaser as a company has a booth, and they even took out an ad on the show homepage!

I will file a report on the whole show....stay tuned....

On another note re. my other post above...emailed Luxus about my wood;and Adam promptly returned it,and we are sorting something out next week when they are off the show circuit :D Two Thumbs Up
