Have a scope up for auction. Have a fella from Australia who's interested in buying it. Any idea if there are any hoops for a private individual to jump through in shipping it to Australia?

What about paperwork? Any issues there? Don't want to ship it and have it confiscated when it gets there.

Can ya'll order direct from American dealers here?

Depends on the scope, and (I believe) it depends on the state you're sending it from.
We can buy things from Alex at Euro Optics (Montoursville, PA) or Jon from The Optic Zone (Harrietta , MI) but Cabelas (NE?) wont ship optics to us
Not sure where your requirement for an export permit for more than $100 US of "gun parts" fits with scopes?

ACOGs or NV gear is supposedly a no no (for you to export) thanks to your state department and leatherwood etc with military ranging reticles often get scrutiny by customs here.

And just for fun Australians are no longer allowed to export scopes (which were undoubtably made OS) without approval from our Department of Defence

Australian's also have to pay duty and GST on anything we import that is worth more than $1000 AUD (if the parcel is labelled as worth more than $1000), unfortunately if shipping via UPS the UPS office here used to often demand duty on items worth more than $250 AUD So you soon figure out how to have things shipped. Global Express mail from USPS usually gets here within a week with no one opening the parcel or demanding more money along the way, especially if it is labelled a gift

Thanks for the info. Pretty much finding that it's OK to ship hunting scopes, (not tactical or possibly laser range finders) to Australia. He advised that he bought another one recently on Ebay and had no issues on either end getting it shipped to him. So as far as I'm concerned now it's a matter of dollars.. Have several folks interested, some offers already made, one more coming in the morning.

I've had people ship from the US, no paperwork from Ebay. I've had friends ship scopes with all the paperwork and it didn't take long at all (and they are aussies as well). So if they can ship swarovski scopes so can you. I'd get the paperwork done just in case. Our end won't stop hunting scopes but it has to get out of the US first. Make sure its USPS and it will cost $50. Send it via UPS and those SOB will cost $250 and the freight cost will put it over th $1000 and you get slugged another 10%

I got some reloading dies sent to me from a mate in Chicargo by USPS as Cabela's wouldn't send it came to my front door. I know blokes that have sent there Leupold scopes back and have been resent no problems.

Is his name Jerry? He's the one who contacted me yesterday evening and he had just bought a 1.7x10 Swarovski on Ebay and it had already arrived.

Its a NIB Swarovski 2-12x50 z6 TDS model. Only been out of the box for a picture. So far nobody has actually 'bought it' but a number of folks have expressed an interest in it. I listed it at $1875 with a buy it now of $2075.00 There are a few left in the states with similar prices. Most of the big guys are out, (Alex, Pigeon and two other huge US optics dealers say that's it, no more from Swarovski.)

Schmidt & Bender is making their Classic with the TDS but it's a first plane and on the high power setting it covers .7" at 100 yards. At long range on high you'll blot out the entire animal! So for us here it simply isn't going to work. Might be a great brush country scope or night scope...

Regarding the mention of Leupold, I checked their site and ya'll can do business direct with no nonsense. Some countries require paperwork to ship back and forth from Leupold but Australia isn't one.
