Janosch picked his way through the ancient ruble of some long forgotten building, looking for scrap metal to trade for food at the market. It had been hard on him and his younger sister, Lisha after their parents had been killed during the winter by barbarian marauders, from the area formally known as France. It was forbidden to go into the centuries old ruins, the ruins as they were said to be haunted by ghost of the most frightening machines that had rendered these buildings to little more than ash and twisted, broken stone many millenia before. He stepped on a meter square piece of broken concrete, that rocked and nearly tumbled him to the ground, he swore at himself for his lack of good judgment as he could ill afford an injury with a sister to care for. He got down on his hands and knees and peered under the stone and observed a hole that some sort of animal had dug for a den beneath it. he reached under and pulled a few stone loose and was rewarded with a faint but unmistakable gush of cool, but musty air. He further opened up the hole and stuck his head and shoulder in, but could see nothing as it was very dark inside. He siezed a ten centimeter stone and tossed it into the the cavern, he heard it clatter upon rock a few times and ended up with a loud metallic clank. His excitment rose when he heard this, but it was getting late so he stacked up some ruble as a marker and carefully navigated his way out of the ruins.
