2805 fps with a 175gr Woodleigh giving 0.75MOA. I'd leave it at that and go hunting.

Yeah that is what we are thinking.mchughcb wrote:2805 fps with a 175gr Woodleigh giving 0.75MOA. I'd leave it at that and go hunting.
Primers look good, no measurable case head expansion, and not really a long way under 7mm magnum velocities.
Life is too short to hunt with an ugly dog.

Let us know how the 175gr PP get along. I'm going to start using mine soon in the BBF97 to see how they perform on sambar compared to their big cousin in the 30 cal.

I think they will penetrate well.

Re: 7x64 RWS 173 Grain
Ok,
Oscar has just reminded me to update this thread.
I did a bit more testing with the 175gr Woodleighs at the range and settled on 59.6 Grains of RL19 for an average velocity of 2725 fps, with a COL of 86mm. Even though 2861 fps shows absolutely no pressure signs this load is the most accurate at this stage.
The below group is a four shot group.
First 2 shots into one hole, third shot high and right from a hot barrel. I should never have fired it. A cease fire was called after that shot, and the barrel cooled down properly. After the ceasefire I fired a forth shot from cool barrel and it went into the same original hole again. I was out of ammunition so left it at that.
Apologies all.
I cannot get this pic to rotate.
The 3 shots group is at the bottom of the target.

The 175gr Woodleighs are absolutely awesome!
After developing the above load 2725fps I emailed Zeiss and had two custom turrets made. One for my V8 and the other for my brothers Conquest DL.
This buck was taken at 280m with a single shot.
It did not take a single step after being hit. It just dropped like I have never seen any other deer drop. Never seen a cleaner or quicker kill.
The 7x64/7x65R are awesome calibers.

Top work there. Excellent performance for that distance. Did the bullet exit?

Re: 7x64 RWS 173 Grain
I'm thinking it would be nice to get an extra 150fps out of my 7x65R but just the hassle of another power I can't be bothered. Certainly shows the potency of the round.

Plus you probably would then need to stuff around with the regulation, which is probably not as simple in your drilling as it is in a Blaser.mchughcb wrote:I'm thinking it would be nice to get an extra 150fps out of my 7x65R but just the hassle of another power I can't be bothered. If you are tempted to have a play, I am running an easy 2800 with 160s and 2213sc in my K95. Running a guesstimated 2600/2650 with 156s and 2209 in the BBF - both 7x65R.
