Nor'easter today,6" of wet snow in a couple hrs with another foot on the way.

Now as for Dinsdale, did you at least get some milk? Figure a couple 5 gallon cans of it to hold ya over till it warms up.. Sure is pretty country when it snows. We had some today but too warm to stay for even a minute. Saw my share in New Mexico this past October...

Did you ever get started on your maple syrup yet? That sure sounds like a buttload of work.

They pumped the load out into another tanker,so no milk for me.


Tapped trees on the 14th pulled 300 gallons last Sat morning and my friend boiled on Sunday.Have another 300 in the tanks he will pick up tomorrow.I will help him boil this weekend.

His son hung 200 buckets today;that will keep him out of trouble for a while.

Been odd weather taps are slow last 2 days;not cold enough at night,like 28,need colder down to 20;with high 30's days with the sun out.Then it really pours out.

It's all good though as long as it doesn't get to warm,season can go on for 3 more weeks.And a slow down is good to take a break on boiling and bottling.

Sounds like ya'll got it going good though. Recall that sometimes it only last a few days. Weird stuff. Can you eat/consume the raw product? I'm still trying to figure out how they came up with the process to make it 'eatable'.

All this talk of snow and ice really makes me shiver.

Just dawned on me, no FEMA? No National Guard troops? Dam how can ya'll exist without the government spending a couple trillion to help ya'll out? Oh never mind it just dawned on me that's only when it pertains to those welfare folks that rely on the 'guvmint' for everything!

Thing that yanks my crank is there is never a credit for the inconvenience of no grid power.I am out about a month per year for bad weather.And it used to be WORSE! once we had ice storm and was out almost 3 weeks.I have a small Honda suitcase style generator/inverter.Thing is awesome and can run electronics with no damage,so I can fire up the computer,keep the fridge and freezers running for a quart of gas/day.I heat almost only with wood anyway,so I'm never cold;only run the furnace when I'm out of town more than a few days.

Only thing I'm out water as my well pump doesn't run when we are down;

But it also means the shop is down too;and if I have work in it;like now;its a pain in the ass.I'd need a major generator to power that up,so it won't pay to buy one.

South of me towards NY City and the back woods of the Catskills are worse off;still lots of damage down that way.A friend of mine in Jewett,NY had 7 FEET of wet snow come his way;but he lives off grid anyway,and doesn't care.He came off the mountain yesterday with his snowmobile for supplies and gave me a call.

Man that little generator is efficient. I have a Coleman 1800 that's pretty good on it's own but not that good. Also have a Lincoln generator/welder that's around 4000-5000 watts. Don't use it much unless we're doing something away from power. Comes in handy though.

Living out in the 'woods' definitely has it's positives but there are some negatives. That bud of mine in New Mexico has been fighting snow this year like crazy. He also heats with wood but his power is a little more reliable. I found him a 10,000 watt Onan the other year that runs on propane. He's never got it up and going but hopefully he'll have time this next year to get it hooked up because they've been without power for pretty good spells too. That Onan is an old one, weighs around a thousand pounds. I bought it at a living estate sale. The old man was in pretty bad health and wanted to get as much stuff cleaned up before he went that he could. If it winds up working it was a steal. Paid $200 for it. Figured the copper wiring inside was worth that much and probably a bit more.

So in your case you're really 'out of business' too while nature is doing it's 'winter' stuff. That would not be a good thing. How big a generator do you think you'd need? Running it off of propane? Diesel? What would your best option be? Never know what I might find down here. We could strap it on Corjacks truck and send it your way...

I have an 8000 and 8500 watt generators, and between cattle showing and hurricanes, mine get used on a fairly regular basis. I would love to have a stand alone generator for my house, but it is really kind of silly for around here.

One of the ways to beat the cold AND the blues is to shack up with some female companions in such a situation. This is a win win situation for both. Before you know it, all the snow would have melted and it would be summer again.

Hope your neighbours give you some help.

Now the snow is almost gone here, but on friday we get a snowstorm again
