I've looked at them and figure if I ever threw one I'd have to go get it...

Who uses a boomerang?
Wondering here if any of you Aussies use a boomerang in your hunting? I've read where they were thrown over brush to frighten birds into flying so they can be shot. Also understand they were used as weapons. They don't really look mean enough to be a weapon but I guess if you got hit upside the head with a big one you'd remember it!

Suspect there's a hitch to being able to throw one where it actually comes back to you.

Re: Who uses a boomerang?
Boomerang for flushing birds
Thats a new one for me.
I thought they were used to hunt kangaroos
The Aussie are the Experts.
They have even adapted the use of the Blaser R 93 as a boomerang
It seems you throw it over the brush, flush game with it, catch it on the return, and shoot the flushed game.
Note: ONLY the R 93 can be used as a boomerang. The R 8 has issues of the magazine flying out with all these centrifugal forces and then only can be used as a club.

Re: Who uses a boomerang?
ROFLMAO! And I was going to get a R8! Oh well there goes that idea! That would be a pretty dam expensive club...
Supposedly the boomerang looks like a 'big bird' that spooks the other birds into taking flight. Also read where they made them up to 6' in size. Now I guess it depends on what it was made out of but it would take a pretty big boy/girl to throw a 6 foot boomerang. And I guarantee you if it came back and you missed catching it you'd remember it! The 6' version was evidently used in battle by the Aussie tribes. I figure 450#2 could use one for elephants but I don't want to put no silly ideas in his head... You thump an elephant upside the head with one and I suspect you'd have to run real fast... or at least faster than the other guys on the hunt!

Re: Who uses a boomerang?
I have used a boomerang but its not like what you see in the movies. They are large, they are heavy and made from hardwood. The are thrown waist height and intended to break the leg of a kangaroo not to kill it out right. We use the nulla nulla for that. Personally if you can hunt a sambar with a boomerang you should be given a medal - for stupidity

Re: Who uses a boomerang?
I have a genuine one some where at mums. I did take one or two cats with it as a kid but I got a gun and that worked better
Measure it, when it’s on the deck
