So I've done some more calculations and measuring. Looks like I can fit 12 x 6.5mm balls of TSS into the 20 gauge and still stay with 30 grams and not be over the lip of the GB 00 wad which is rated for 31 grams. Might need a few wraps of mylar and I might have to get a bit of buffer as well.

I'll decide of the next week if I need 20 gauge TSS-18 buckshot.

That is really big for TSS buckshot, even BBs penetrate deer and exit.

Yes I'd say its the biggest you can reasonably fit in there.
I will may have a look at the BB as well.

I'm thinking of trying #11 shot (1.8mm). If anybody is interested in a purchasing a kg or more with me in Australia let me know. My other buddy is keen as mustard to get some #9 for his 410 for ducks. I might put another order in the next week or so. Price is going to be about US$90/kilo.

Looks like I they don't have those half sizes larger size in stock. But they do have 4.5mm (BB) in stock so I'll get some of them. Probably be a better pattern as well at 50m. My calcs say they will penetrate between #3 and 00 buck.

Well just put in a big order for TSS. I'll be getting 5.5mm and 4.5mm as well as 1.8mm and 2.0mm. I'm teeing up with a guy in SC who deer hunts with buckshot to do some testing for me against his 000 3" buck to see how the 5.5mm performs. I got my overshot cards on order and hopefully buffer coming next week. I'll probably test these out of the BBF and the BD14 at ranges to 80m which I think is the practical limit without having to have any kentucky elevation.

Even at 80 yards the center of the pattern will be 10” or so low depending on starting velocity. At least that has been true for my tests so far.

This has been a fascinating read and extremely informative. Thank you Bob for sharing your data and experiences - it actually has me completely rethinking my shotgun battery.

Any thoughts on the Sauer SL5 vs the Benelli M2? Switch barrel option aside.

I’ve only seen one Sauer SL5 so don’t know that much about them except it is a nicely made and handsome gun. The inertia system looks to be straight Benelli so should be proven, however I tend to wait and watch for a design to have some miles on it before I buy one. I went with an M2 only because it is well proven but it is not a gun I love, it is just a workhorse gun I don’t mind dragging through the muck and mire on down and dirty hunts.

A blaser bud has contacted me and is getting a price for shot sizes in tungsten carbide. They have a SG 14.96.
