Wife was being a smarty pants hence this poll.
Personally, I love a nice Shiraz or full body Duriff with a nice steak, whether beef, venison etc. but not essential.

I answered "no but..." I'm always happy to drink a good beer but am partial to Australian Shiraz too. We can also occasionally get pretty decent Petite Sirah from California, so I'll second your durif although I think the Californians more often blended with Zinfandel - perhaps our American members can correct me.

Hell Yes, give me a good Bordeaux or Bourgogne or a good west coast (California, Oregon, Washington) Pinot Noir.
Haven't a clue.Vaughan wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 7:57 am I answered "no but..." I'm always happy to drink a good beer but am partial to Australian Shiraz too. A good Shiraz or merlot while cooking, while eating and after get the nod from me. Had some memorable meals of steak with Malbec in Argentina a few years ago too.

I'd rather a ribeye with a frosty Tooheys Old myself.
I'm soft and I don't care.

The movie Tom Jones had a great line: “Wine dulls the mind, but only of a dull man.”
