Anyone considering a Thompson Icon or Venture (as well as some of their other models) they have a rebate active again. $150 off toward the purchase of a new Icon and $50 toward a new Venture. I've had 2 Icons and they are super accurate and require NO load development.  The 243 shoots the factory Hornady 58 grain, 75 grain and 100 grain ammo all under 1/2" at 100 yards. And does the same with a host of other ammo. I've heard the same reports about the Venture series, same 5R barrel... Great gun for kids and hunters that don't have a deep pocketbook.

I would bet this is a sign of hard times in the gun industry. 8-)

They did it last year also. I suspect that's part of the story, the other is getting these guns into the hands of the public. Not enough places carry them and they are more expensive than that $349. Savage, Marlin and others in the Walmart market place. But when you're getting a gun that's technically finished, good trigger, floated barrel, good stocks, 'weathershield' finishes on some, etc., you're going to have a nice gun. They made some serious headway last year so we'll see how it good it works this year. My guess is that it'll make them sell. The gun is way too good not to be kept in production. In fact I might seriously consider the Venture in a 204 Ruger some day down the road. Light and super accurate and already in a complete camo package for around $500. I would prefer to add a 204 barrel to the lightweight 202 I have but we'll see.

Plus S&W is known for rebate programs. They've been doing them for years. Everything from an extra mag or two to a cash rebate and all kinds of other rebates. They figured out that just dropped the price doesn't entice people nearly as much as getting something back... Must be the conditioning that Uncle Sam does in taking your money all year long and giving you a few bucks back - you feel really good about that!
