desert eagle?

Post by SPEEDY »

Anyone here owned or played with a Desert eagle?

I'm planing on buying one once I get my Category H license again, I played with one back around 98 or so in 50AE but due to our laws I can only get a handgun under 9mm and with a mag capacity of 10 rounds or less, so a Desert eagle in 357mag suits the bill nicely IMO

I plan on getting one with the standard 6" barrel for fun and a 10" barrel with scope for silhouette competition, as I understand it they have a gas system like a rifle unlike most handguns blowback system. I remember recoil was surprisingly light for such a big caliber, only downside is they are damn expensive.

There is no other semi-auto in 357mag is there?

I know nothing about them, but know that they are fairly popular. Here is a picture of a 357.

I have shot several of them and I borrowed one a 44 Mag from a budy and shot it quite a bit.

They can be finiky as to ammo, and the one big downside is that the one I borrowed did not have adjustable sights.
It was reliable with the 240gr ammo I shot in it.
I did shoot fairly accurate, but it was a LOT bigger and heavier than a 44 Mag Revolver.

I wanted to like it as I could have bought it for a great price, but it just did not "grab" me.

It was a shame since my favorite handgun is a semiauto [1911], but my favorite handgun cartridge is the 44 Mag.

I have shot the AutoMags, and the LAR Grizzly, and the big AMT, they did not Grab me either.

Speedy

There was a 357 Mag pistol called the Coonan.

It looked a lot like a 1911. A buddy had one and he shot it a lot in IPSC matches. I shot it a bit, and It worked OK.

But here is a thought, and bear in mind it is from a 1911 Freek...

I do not drink the 1911 Kool Aid, I shoot it directly into my vein...

If I had to have a semiauto not over 9mm, and wanted mor ower than a 9mm, then I would get a 38 Super in a 1911, with a ramped, fully suported chamber barrel.

With that I KNOW I would have a pistol that would be 100% reliable and easy to carry, and very accurate.

For the utmost in power you coud get a 6" barrel fit to a 5" slide.

I would think about a Wilson, with a Bomar adjustable sight.

I just found out today that I can get up to a 45cal for silhouette match :D so I'm looking at a Desert eagle 44mag now

I did give some thought to a 45APC, but I'm not to sure on ammo availability here now. where as the 44mag is everywhere
