Well my old Toyota has cracked a head, or blown a headgasket, as it is putting pressure into the radiator. I have nearly 250 thousand miles on it, and it had several other issues as well. I did not want to spend much money on a rig that I will only put about 3 thousand miles a year on. My nephew told me about another Toyota that had a bad transmission. I went to look at it, and while it only had 140,000 miles on it, they were done by some spoiled rotten kid, that had really abused it. It has several small dents, and you can see where it has been run through a barb wire fence, but the engine started and ran good, they had also rebuilt the front end and had put new shocks all the way around on it. It would drive but shifted badly, and would not go into fith gear or reverse. They wanted 1200.00 for it, I offered them 1000.00 and they reluctantly took it. I planned to pull the transmission out of my other Toyota, and put it in the one I just bought. I drove it to my brothers house, and got brave and pulled the top off of the transmission. I discovered there was a plastic bushing/spacer that keeps the shifter in line with the forks. I fabricated a replacement, slapped it back together, and it works perfectly. I need to put a new clutch in it, and work on the air conditioner, but it will probably last me another five years. I am going to call it the "gray ghost".
I spent all day cleaning the empty beer cans, and trash out of it, vacumed as much grime and dirt as possible, and now I have my trailer loaded full of hunting and camping gear hooked to it, and I am ready to pull out to go deer hunting the end of the week.
