Judge

I would like to introduce my newest all terrain vehicle. His name is Judge and is a 6 years old Quarter Horse, and he has been trained to be roped off of and work cattle. His life with me will consist mostly of riding trail and checking cattle and fences. I rode him 10 miles yesterday, and he doesn't appear to be very excitable. He will do anything you ask of him, but he won't volunteer much.

Nice looking horse.

My Dad would love to take your horse for a spin. As I recall, he's on a Morgan in this picture (circa mid-1980), but he also owned a retired barrel racer at that time.

Thats a good looking horse, you don't appreciate the size of him until you notice the depth of his chest and how small you look on top of him..

That was meant as a complement  :D

Lena was the first person I told about Judge, and we talked this morning on Facebook about horses in general.Image

I would be curious to see a cost per mile comparasion between a horse and an ATV.

I thought about getting a horse of two...

A buddy of mine that is a large animal vet told me he would give me 4 horses, IF I would let him to the vet work on them.

I have been of a few horseback hunts and no doubt they can go and do where an ATV cannot, but I just do not have a real need for a horse.

But I like riding/hunting on them.

I have not done a cost comparison between a 4 wheeler and a horse, but I am pretty sure it would be a wash.

I switched from horses to 4 wheelers in 1993 and haven't looked back, but since I recently leased a new place for my cows that has bad fences, it is just a matter of time before I am chasing cattle through the woods in places that a 4 wheeler can't go. This constitutes my only real "need" for a horse, but I do enjoy pleasure/trail riding and am planning to do more of it to better "justify" my purchase. ;)

I spent 3+ hours on Judge yesterday and only about 2 hours on him today. I took a friend and his son with me today to go check my cows, and we rode around a couple of the pastures checking fences too. I forgot how relaxing it is to ride a good horse.Image
