Sachs Dolmar Chainsaws

Post by Corjack »

I have always given my father a hard time about having 20+ chainsaws, mostly Huskys. I grew up with a chainsaw in my hand, and usually it was a Stihl. I have had two Stihls for several years, but was wanting a light, little saw, to take on camping/hunting trips. The last time I was in my friends pawn shop, I noticed a neat little Sachs Dolmar that would fit the bill, nicely. Today when I stopped in to get some pistol bullets, I asked him what he wanted for it. He told me there where two setting there, and I had to take both for 50.00. I whipped out the money so fast, I broke a nail, and dislocated my wrist. Got home, and examined my purchase/steal, and found I was the owner of a PS-34, and a 114. I gassed them up, the 34 took about six pulls to start, and seemed to run fine, it did barely run fast enough at an idle to stay running, and died a time or two, but cut very nicely, and is very quiet. A few tanks of clean gas, will probably fix the idle problem, if not I will take it in for service. I next cranked the 114, and it started on the second pull, run an idled fine, put it into a log and discovered it was a real hoss, chips went a flyin, and it went through the wood with little effort. They are both a little dirt, and gummed up, so I will clean around a little bit on them, and be good to go. Hope in twenty years I do not have 20+ chainsaws.

When I used to live in upstate New York, I needed a chain saw for cutting wood for the stove, and everyone recommended Poulon. Dont know if they are still made. I found it reliable and easy to start.

I do not think we need the big one, it is big enough to log for a livin with. The little one will cut all the firewood we need.
