Over here we have hound hunters that hunt Sambar deer. You love them or hate them. Most of the new laws that come in that affecting all hunter's are mostly dew to them and their misconduct type of behavior that they get up to in the alpine high country. Here is a photo of a roll over all dogs and occupants survived. Like I said you love them or hate them.

Me and mine strongly dislike the hound (dog) hunting of coyotes. They run the coyotes down using multiple dogs, letting fresh dogs out during the chase. The "hunters" eventually drive up along the exhausted coyotes and shoot them with pistols.

First that rollover was nasty. Suprised nobody got killed in it.. Personally wouldn't care for hunting deer with dogs but each his own..

Ahh but a dead coyote is a beautiful coyote! They've wiped out our deer herd here. As a kid growing up and even through the late 90s we had a herd that was awesome. We'd see 30-40 deer in an afternoon of hunting. Now you're lucky to see 1-5. Last year I saw a herd of 8 and that's the most I've seen here since 2000.. Makes no difference where I hunt, a coyote will die if he steps out and shows his butt.

BTW I did hear of hunting them with Grayhounds. Supposedly they drive around till they see one and then turns the hounds loose on them. According to the story the lead Grayhound finally rips the coyotes throat out when they corner him. I'd like to see that...

On a further note as for the home place. We can't turn a dog loose or a cat loose here outside. They've killed every dog and cat in the neighborhood that is allowed to live outdoors. One of the women in the area reported one wintered on her back porch last year!

I have no problem with hound hunters as long as they look after their dogs and don't go poaching in out of bounds areas, which seems to be a tall ask from a lot of them. While scouting out a lot of areas I have seen no shortage of dog crews hunting both out of season and miles from any permitted hound hunting area, if they play the game right then I would have no problem with them same as pig doggers (although I really hate most of them with a passion)

I don't know how the hound hunting works there. Every animal I have hunted with dogs I have enjoyed the hunt more with dogs than without. I have hunted phesant behind flushing dogs. I have watched pointing dogs slam on points while hunting grouse and woodcock [ this is still my favorite bird hunting] Does rabbit hunting get any better than with beagles? Hunting Black bear with hounds is still a fantastic memory. I have never been coon hunting, but I know hearing the hounds and the thrill of the chase would be awesome.
I think the biggest thing people have a problem with is that hounds don't have boundries, they don't respect property lines. Why do people there dislike the hound hunters? Is it the boundry problem or do people feel the hound hunters are poaching? Dave w.

I had a mixed breed lab that was a pretty good coon hunter. She wasn't trained, but I had chickens at the time those coons' were after, and we ran down a bunch a few nights a year.

Hunted bobcat with a guy that was really into training and such up in Maine.Great dogs, loads of fun.

Ran baboons with dogs in Namibia, that was the single best time I have ever had hunting.

Speedy tapped onto it a bit the hound hunters tend to run their dog's in areas there not meant to be in and if that's a farmers land so be it.(Dog can't read maps or GPS). If the farmer has lock the gate they will just knock it down. If the track is closed then they just knock the gate that locks the track. They are only allowed so many dogs a crew they just get 10, 20 crews together and run the whole bush. With Houndies is not about the hunt or the deer is just the excitement they get from running the dogs and the sound they make. They are a numbers group of people. But not all of them are like that and one thing I will give them they really look after their dogs. This is why there are so many laws regarding hunting deer. Not to long back they band the foxhounds from been used as a legal dog to hunt Sambar this was done only as a form of discipline due to the bad behaviour of the hound crews. Now they run Beagles and Bloodhounds. From what I have been told the Bloodhounds attack their handlers and the Beagles are very good but with the small legs the hunt is a bit longer. Like I said you love them or hate them but the list goes on about them as well.

No this wasn't on private land it was on state land miles and miles from and no way near any "proscribed hound hunting area" and it was definitely well out of season.
We used to let fox hunters on the chase run across our land but when I get my property next year (688ac at Bathurst) I and all my mates will draw the line at Pig hunters (or hound crew if any went up that way) ran my gate or cut my lock then he better hope that I don't get a clear shot as his hounds or there going down and their going to get done for break and enter, unlawful use of a fire arm and anything that can be thought of and we have the contacts to see that through.

But a few "Fox and feral Dog 1080 baits laid on this property" signs tend to keep them at bay, and if that don't work then I'm going to put out baits set near the tracks just for dogs.

In case you can't tell I HATE POACHERS WITH A PASSION

Much as I enjoy hunting with dogs, including hounds, one needs to recognise that times have changed.
With land holdings getting dearer one HAS to respect the sentiments of the land holder as well as, the local hunting laws.
One may moan and groan about this or having to pay for these rights, but the fact remains that these resources are increasingly coming under pressure and if one wishes to continue their sport then compromises are required.

Basically, it boils down to, that a few slob hunters have ruined an ancient and honored sport for everyone. Coon hunting has been a pastime in my area for years, our laws allow hunters to tresspass on private property to retrieve dogs that are treed, however they are not allowed to have a firearm or shoot the treed coon on property they do not have permission to hunt, many ignore the law and hunt wherever they like. This ruins it for everyone else, as landowner sentiment runs against the houndhunters because of the slobs.

I have no problem with someone thats on a chase crossing my land, but if they damage fences or gates then there is going to be a problem. Then of course there is common pig dog excuse of "I had to find my dog" sounds reasonable but when your at say Charliville on a 200,000ac property then there is no way that dog chased a pig for 15km
