30/06 practice load

Post by canalrifle »

(Cartridge) 30/06

(Brand of bullet) Hornaday Short Jacket

(Weight of bullet) 110 grains

(Brand of brass) Remington-Peters

(Type of powder) IMR 4198

(Grains of powder) 25.0

(Brand, and type of primer) Remington-Peters 9.5

(COL) 3.045"

(FPS) 1,800 estimated

(Rifle) Blaser R 8

(Scope) Zeiss Victory HT 3-12 X 56, Swarovoski 1.1 - 4 X 24

(Weather conditions & temp.)

(Accuracy @ 100 yards/meters) See notes

(Notes) I found this to be a good load for practice, shooting at water filled plastic gallon milk jugs at 50 yards offhand. This light weight bullet really explodes the milk jugs. With my R 8 and scopes sighted in for 100 yards, this load is minute of milk jug at 50 yards. There is virtually no recoil to interfere with seeing the milk jug explode through the scope.

Thanks for the fps info. It's deadly on water filled plastic milk jugs.
