130 grain in 308

Post by Olsen »

Its impossible to get any 150 grain bullet, Hornady and Barnes, and nobody know, when they will come to Denmark

I can get Barnes TTSX 130 grain, so now I ask, has anybody use 130 grain in 308, and if yes, how do they work

I know they are a bit too light, to use, after danish hunting law, but the deer dont know the law

I will use them for everything, from fox to red stag 8-)

They will be fine, drive them fast as they need velocity to expand properly. I used 110 ttsx in my 7/08 and they killed red stag well.
A ttsx is similar in performance to the next weight up in normal projectiles, so a 130 ttsx will perform like a 150gr.

The 30 cal 130gn TTSX is a good bullet. I loaded them for my son in his 308 when he was young to reduce felt recoil. As mentioned, they need speed to expand, but within 100-200 meters, they will perform well.

Where minimum caliber / balistics laws start to fall down is that they often dont allow for advancements in bullet performance. I would be very surprised if a red stag could tell the difference between a 150gn lead core jacketed bullet and a 130gn TTSX, assuming a well placed shot with either bullet. Terminal ballistics would probably favour the 130gn TTSX bullet.

I used them and they were brilliant, only reason I use 150gn in the 30/06 now is because in the short K95 barrel it shoots thec150's as fast as the 130's so I might as well get a little more weight and BC out of the deal.
I'm soft and I don't care.

I have used the 130 ttsx in my 308. I never got them to shoot as well as 125 Nosler BTs but they shoot well enough for my roe deer hunting. They have worked fine for me for the little fellas and I imagine they would expand even better on larger deer. I havent used the 308 for a few years.....

Check out Hammer Bullets and their forum. I don’t know anything about the import/extort side of things but these bullets are very innovative and interesting.

Looks like Hornady take out GMX and a new CX bullet take over, but only in 110 and 165 grain for now

Hi Olsen, I've used the 130 TTSX in 30.06 but unfortunate not in 308, I would say that my experience is that the 130 TTSX has a way slower and less expansion than the 168 TTSX, even a roe deer sometimes does not drop dead in the track, they might run a few meters or 50, but with the 168 its like a off switch

The 168 is too heavy and dont get enough speed, in my short 308, so it wont expand at 200 m :?

Just ordered 150 pcs in 130 gr, then we will see

Ive tried 130ttsx before with great success and went back to them. Shot them at 860ms, a pretty mild load, but in a 50cm barrel. They have stopped everything with one shot. Havent got passed 200m thou
