Re: Before and after pics
.45 Blaser at 2300fps thanks to 64g of AR2219 / H322
.45/70 Hornady factory loads have them running 2000fps so I was a bit worried about close range performance if I aimed at bone. I aimed behind the shoulder and recovered the one pictured after it punched through the liver and rumen as well as the lungs

Re: Before and after pics
Closer to original .404j ballistics than that of the .416 Rigby; 400g at 2150 rather than 410g at 2300.
Both .423 and .416 400g bullets have greater SD for larger game than the .458.
Is an SD of .30+ necessary for sambar, and is SD really that important in this day of modern mono metal bullets?

Re: Before and after pics
It's a nice calibre for a dangerous game or driven hunt barrel.
How's the recoil?

Re: Before and after pics
If I plug the figures in http://www.shooterscalculator.com/recoil-calculator.php
with a nominal 10lb rifle weight I get 15.8 and 38.8 for the .375 with 260g NABs vs 15.3fps and 36.1 ft/lbs with the 325g Flextip, which fits with my thoughts that it’s more of a shove than a whack and easier to shoot than the H&H.
My 400g load generates 16 fps recoil velocity and 40ft/lbs.

Re: Before and after pics
I actually find the exact figures as generated by a computer only part of the story, when it comes to actual real world recoil factors like felt recoil from the push or sharp whack make the biggest difference followed by things like stock fit and design or to a lesser extent but bigger reduction mechanical devices such as grom the use of breaks or moderators.
I've always found a difference between felt and actual recoil.

That’s why I like Blasers, same stock and only relative barrel and scope weight making the difference, unless of course you have a brake fitted

Re: Before and after pics
Just bumping this as I hear there a a few questions popping up in some of the yapping dogs threads.
I’ve been busy using the 8x57 on local rusa of late so the .45 has been ignored. I haven’t tried the 250g monoflex as there hasn’t been any in my 4 locals. I know Evan the Qlder of the three designers on AHN of the .45 whatever it’s called, based on the RUM case and fed through cheap surplus WSSM mod 70s, has used them on pigs with great results but he has to remove the tip with a pair of pliers in order to keep the OAL fitting the magazine.
I should get around to testing 400g hydros but I find it hard to get inspired without already having airline tickets booked.
As for a Big Game Rifle Club, pretty sure I’ve posted the link to the rule book in other threads. Simplified group 1 is .318 WR and above, group 2 .450/400 and above, group .3 being (from memory) .500 NE and above. Now if you want the reduced handicap of group 2 then you load to 3900 fpe with a 400g. Now if you want to load your .404 or whatever above original Kynoch specs go for it, but you get no extra points. For that same reason very few .460 weatherbys are seen in comp. Think power factor in IPSC and how many want to shoot a .45ACP over a .380 Colt, or .300 Win Mag rather than 6,5 Creedmoor in PRC etc
Then again Victoria is very small town prone to dick measuring contests, whilst the rest of Australia ignores their claims of how another survey of Instagrammers has voted Melbourne “best town to wear a man bun in” or some other useless accolade. If it didn’t have sambar you’d avoid putting money into the Victorian economy...
That aside, and in deference to someone living on the border of sanity otherwise known as the Murray river, had anyone with QL happy to plug the 250g monoflex through?

There’s a difference between having long hair and wearing your hair in a bun, the latter usually is found in a town with an over hyped cafe culture
