I bought my 9,3x74R D 99 Duo specifically for one hunt, that I do nearly every year.
I hunt black bear in Idaho where grouse are in season at the same time.
I wanted to have a gun with me 100% of the time that would be very effective on black bear [or elk, wolves, deer etc.] as well as be able to take a grouse at every oppertunity.
I would rather have 500 lbs of grouse meat than 500 lbs of elk meat...
On this hunt I might ride an ATV for 30 to 50 miles one way, and then walk deep in to the woods to hunt bear.
The Blaser D 99 is a rugged gun, and does not need to be babied.
I do this alone, so if I bump into something the "double rifle part" of the D 99 Duo is there to help save my bacon
.
The 20ga bbl is there for grouse...
The D 99 Duo is very accurate, so IF I need to make a longish shot at a bear, elk, wolf, etc. the Duo, with its scope is accurate enough for the job.
It is a Great Hunters Gun.
