Maybe moving back to Germany to Stuttgart area

I should find out in a week or two if we are moving back to Germany.

If the answer is a yes, I am going to downsize all my ammunition, rifles and reloading stuff so be on the look out.

I have been researching the local State Forest hunts, in hopes of getting on a revier quickly.

In Rheinland Pfalz the local Forstampt sold individual seats, as well as entire reviers. Having 2-3 seats instead of an entire revier would be enticing. As it is less work.

My jagdschein expired a year ago, but I am sure that isn't a big deal to get it relaunched once we have an adress.

I'll post an update if I end up with the job.

Glad for you if it works out. I enjoyed my time in Germany very much. My impressions were that there was a richer hunting culture in southern Germany than where I was in Berlin and Magdeburg areas.

Never lived in Berlin, lived in east of Kaiserslautern about 15 miles about 6 miles from Ramstein.

The states with the most hunting licenses the year I got mine were Rheinland Pfalz and Saarland.

Bavaria and Baden Wurttenburg have ibex, chamois, capercailie, blackgrouse and bears. Only the chamois is on license, but it is more of a wilderness area with the Black Forest and mountains.

Ulm is only 30-40 minutes away from the base.

Isny is about an two hours.

Can be in a good area for gams, murmel and steinbock in 2 hours in Austria.

We have been in the USA for 2 years and 25 days, so it is time to move again. I have no idea what kind of people like to stay in one town their whole lives.

That and I killed a 6 inch long scorpion yesterday, so that exacerbated my interest in getting the hell out of New Mexico again. The NMGF wasn't very good to me either, so no pressing bighorn sheep tags to stay for.

And you'll be fairly close to Isny im Allgäu . . . The home of Blaser, Mauser, and J.P. Sauer & Sohn (all in one complex)! Only a few hours drive to the south . . .

Good luck, I hope it works out.
But for me I'm happy to stay foot in one place, I spent a number of years moving from state to state and we were always moving house growing up.

So I'm happy to stay foot these days.

I've just gone through the process of applying for (and receiving) permission to bring my long guns back to Germany through the Army weapons registration office at Sembach. I can share my lessons learned if you like. Some things have changed (gun safe standards, prices for registration, etc.).

My daughter and her husband lived in Schönaich for a few years. He worked at several of those bases.

On Scorpions.

I used to smash them, but you are usually pretty excited and they don't weigh much so they go flying across the carpet after you whack them with a shoe.

So now I either vacuum them up or smash them with a stick or scoop them up in a cup and throw them in the toilet.

If, instead of selling your guns, I would store them for you until you get home! Don't live too far away and could meet you halfway.
