List of scopes with rail

Post by Yarrenby »

Recently ordered and paid a deposit on my first Blaser, an R8 Pro Success 6.5/284

I was intending to get a non-illuminated
Z6 2.5-15x44 or 3-18x50 with SR rail. I am told by my dealer that the rail is only available on the illuminated Z6 models.
After looking at the websites of various Euro scope manufacturers, most don't clearly state which models are available with an integral rail.
So what is available with a rail (say Swarovski, Zeiss, S+B, Leica or others you know of ?
If you do someone a favour, forget it.

Not necessarily, just after a list of rail scopes available so I can do do some google research on which I would prefer.
The Z6i may still be my best option, but just wondering what else is available.

I would suggest you look at opticstrade web site, they have 74 scopes with rail and allows easy comparisons. https://www.optics-trade.eu/en/riflesco ... _rail.html

well, in the past the Z6 non illuminated was available with rail, but this is a couple of years ago...

What is available with rail is:

Z6i edition without 1-6x24EE and without 5-30x50
Z8i edition complete with rail
Z4i edition (which was discontinued last year)

As posted in another thread, Kaps still use the old style Prism rail as far as I'm aware, and we have yet to establish if the prism rail saddlemount is still available.

The only other manufacturer still using that rail is Nickel AFAIK http://www.nickel-ag.com/en/products/zf.aspx

So the 1-6x EE isnt available in SR

Does this mean Swarovski doesnt have faith in the SR on the big .450's and up that require the extended eye relief, or the US market who own them has little idea of the SR's existence?

I'd love a 1-6x EE on a .416/500 S2 if the latter was still made, although there is the likelihood the scope would probably have to be either mounted high or would block access to the lever thanks to eye relief

When the AV series which was a 1" model came out there were some models available with the rail. I personally had several of the 4-12x50s. They pop up occasionally on the used market. When the Z6 models first came about there were several models available with rails that weren't illuminated. I still have a z6 2-12x50 with the rail. Finding a Z6 with a rail and not illuminated is going to be a chore. Personally I think you'll be happy with the illuminated model even if you don't want to use that feature.

As for GBE's comment about the US market now knowing of the SR you hit it dead on. EuroOptics and Mad Dog are AFAIK the only dealers who bother ordering rail scopes and having them on their sites. If you're not a Blaser owner chances are good that you haven't heard of a rail model or think it's the old one that required drilling holes and screwing the scope down. Zeiss has pushed their rail models a bit more here but still not enough. I can't recall seeing a Zeiss with a rail at DSC. The Neanderthals are still running the show.....

Mate, got no idea who makes what with rails. But thought I'd let you know that I think QGE still have one or two Zeiss rail scopes in stock at very good prices. Think both were non illuminated. I reckon I last saw them there about a month ago. Not sure on models but price was reasonable. I bought my last Zeiss rail scope from them a 2. Something to 10 non illuminated Classic for about $1.2K. (Lives on a 223) anyway they may be worth a call.

And I reckon that your going the right way mounting a rail scope on the Blaser. They are a great system and I'm stuffed if I know why we bother with rings.

And, can't wait to see you come out of the closet on AHN. :gay-rainbow:

Cheers

I bought one of those rail scopes from QGE.
Zeiss 2.5-10x50 non illuminated with rail for $789.
I think there are two Victoy's left both half price.
They are incredible value.

That's cheap....I'll have to look into these rail mounts. Can't let you Blaser boys have all the flash stuff to yourselves.....
