Any other Formula 1 fans here?

Post by dinsdale »

Given this forums' international flavor, curious to see if any other members follow along.

I've watched since I lived close enough to Toronto,to pick up BBC world coverage when I was growing up.They would broadcast live races, and me and my brother would get up early on Sunday's to see European racing at 6am our time on the east coast.

Later we would go to a bar in Buffalo,to eat chicken wings and drink beer, and watch replays with a bunch of fanatics from Germany who worked with my brother.Ah...the good old days.

I keep track of the races most years, and when I am home I enjoy watching them. Most come at a very reasonable 1400 hours here so don't even have to get up early :D . The Germans are going to go crazy again this year, M. Schumacher is returning to the circuit and will be driving a Mercedes 8-)

It will be interesting to see how competetive Schumacher is,after a three year layoff.

I see Kimi Raikkonen started his rally career with the Artic Rally.Guess now he really is the "Iceman"

Back in the late 60's and early 70's my father worked for Dunlop, accounting for special projects, which included the racing division. We got free tickets and pit passes to Watkins Glen, where the American GP was held,I was just 6-7 years old at the time I went to my first race.My dad hates racing,he just went to impress his boss.

I have a cool autographed Jackie Stewart model car he signed. They were a corperate promotion and only 50 were made for VIP's.My dad traded some woodworking he did as a hobby for it from a board member. That was the summer Stewart retired as his best friend was killed at the Glen in practice.

Speaking of the Iceman I was always pulling for him, he's a very good driver, and got the short end of the stick on a number of races due to mechanical issues or just plain bad luck. Wish him well in whatever he races.

There are some up and coming good drivers, should be an interesting season. It looks like Ferrari's domination is slipping, there are some pretty good teams out there.

I kinda tried to keep up with Juan Pablo on the NASCAR circuit, it took him a couple years but he did put in some good runs this year. With the time difference it's hard to follow though, so I usually just check the net for results on them.

Dinsdale, you musta spent a few years in Europe. I mean you love European rifles and calibers, build genuine Hochsitz, and follow Formel 1 -- cool.

I pulled for Raikkonen, liked his post race matter of fact press interviews.

With so many changes this year, both in drivers and new teams,it will be interesting.

I always follow BMW and Nick Heidfeld,as I have a soft spot.I owned a 1973 2002tii for a while, great little car.Sold it when graduating from college  My brother has owned and amature raced Porsche cars for some time,he always has a project car.His work takes him to Germany often, and he brings back parts in his luggage. Now I need him so find me some barrels
